Expanding Research to Improve Care

Expanding Research to Improve Care

KCP supports improving the understanding of chronic kidney disease (CKD) through expanded research and coordination. KCP supports expanding and enhancing the current research efforts related to CKD in three ways:

  1. The Government Accountability Office(GAO) should assess the adequacy of federal funding for CKD research relative to the expenditures for CKD care and identify gaps in research.
  2. The various federal agencies conducting CKD research should improve their coordination by developing a strategic plan.
  3. The Secretary should conduct a study to better understand the progression of kidney disease and treatment of kidney failure in minority populations.
