Kidney Care Partners (KCP), the nation’s largest kidney care coalition, released the following statement regarding H.R. 6214, the Kidney Care Access Protection Act, which will be considered in the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Tuesday, September 15.

“KCP strongly supports efforts to modernize Medicare’s kidney care payment system and to ensure patients have access to the latest lifesaving innovations. Promising therapies and technologies face barriers to widespread adoption because Medicare’s current payment policies do not provide a sustainable pathway for long-term reimbursement. We are encouraged by the Energy and Commerce Committee’s commitment to advancing policies that strengthen kidney care through a hearing that includes H.R. 6214, the Kidney Care Access Protection Act, introduced by Reps. Carol Miller (R-WV) and Terri Sewell (D-AL). We appreciate the leadership of its Chairman Brett Guthrie (R-KY), Chairman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) of the Subcommittee on Health, and bipartisan leaders of the Committee for their continued focus on improving access to care for Americans living with kidney failure. The Kidney Care Access Protection Act represents an important step toward improving reimbursement for breakthrough technology and helping providers deliver high-quality care in communities across the country. We look forward to working with lawmakers to advance H.R. 6214/S. 2730 and ensure Medicare policy keeps pace with the needs of patients and providers alike.

KCP also remains committed to working with Congress on policies that protect patient choice and preserve access to insurance coverage for individuals with kidney failure. In particular, the Restore Protections for Dialysis Patients Act (H.R. 2199/S. 1173) would restore longstanding congressional intent by ensuring eligible patients can maintain access to private insurance coverage, helping safeguard continuity of care and Medicare resources.
