House Energy and Commerce Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Hearing Marks Progress Toward Achieving Procurement Transparency, Patient Safety, and Access
WASHINGTON – Kidney Care Partners (KCP)—the nation’s leading kidney care multi-stakeholder coalition representing patient advocates, physician organizations, health professional groups, dialysis providers, researchers, and manufacturers—today thanked Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-2), Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, and Congressman John Joyce (PA-13), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, for their leadership to ensure that the U.S. organ procurement and transplant system prioritizes transparency and patient safety.
The subcommittee’s focus comes at a critical moment for patients living with kidney disease, desperately awaiting an organ transplant. A kidney transplant is the ideal treatment for those living with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), but the current system often creates challenges for patients. Today, nearly 90,000 Americans are on the kidney transplant waitlist, with many dropping off the list each year due to deteriorating health or, unfortunately, death.
KCP remains committed to working with Congress, the Administration, and all stakeholders to advance reforms that will better serve the nation’s kidney care community.
